Bay of Pigs invasion

From ProleWiki, the proletarian encyclopedia

The Bay of Pigs invasion was a failed counter-revolutionary invasion of the Bay of Pigs inlet located in Cuba in April of 1961[1]. An imperialist military landing funded and trained by the USA, its goal was to overthrow Fidel Castro and place an imperialist ally and dictator back into power, in response to Fulgencio Batista being ousted from power by the 26th of July Movement. The amateur militia was made up primarily of Gusanos and other Cuban exiles that were trained offshore in Guatemala[2]. The attack was a national failure, with the Cuban Revolutionary Army easily driving off the counter-revolutionary forces, helping to cement Castro's place as a leader and national hero of Cuba. Some suspect that the embarrassment of the imperialist world power of the USA losing to the comparatively small and weaker Cuba led to the CIA assassinating then president John F. Kennedy[citation needed]. However, these rumors have never been officially confirmed by the US government.
