Fred Goldstein (1938 – April 11, 2023) was a Statesian communist who organized for the Workers World Party for almost 60 years. After the 1991 counterrevolution, he continued to uphold Marxism-Leninism and wrote the books Low-Wage Capitalism: Colossus with Feet of Clay and Capitalism at a Dead End.[1]

Political career

Goldstein began his communist activism in 1961. He was arrested for the first time in 1962 as leader of Youth against War and Fascism when he tried to stop scabs from breaking a hospital managers' strike.[1]

Vietnam War

In 1962, YAWF held its first protest against the Vietnam War. After Lyndon B. Johnson began to bomb Hanoi and Haiphong in August 1964, Goldstein worked with Deirdre Griswold to draft an anti-war leaflet and protested in Times Square.[1]

Black liberation movement

Goldstein helped the Monroe Defense Committee protect Black people in Monroe, North Carolina from the KKK. He attended the Black Panther Party's United Front against Fascism conference in 1969 and Revolutionary Constitutional Convention in 1970. He supported the Attica prison rebellion of 1971 and protested to prevent Mumia Abu Jamal from being executed.[1]
