Generation Z protests, also known as Gen Z protests, refer to a series of youth-led protest movements that began in the early 2020s and have continued into the mid-2020s. The term is most frequently associated with a wave of colour revolutions that emerged in 2024, beginning with the July Revolution in Bangladesh.
Although these movements are often portrayed as spontaneous uprisings organized by Generation Z activists, many have been criticized for their limited achievements and lack of material transformation, even in cases where state power was completely overthrown. This tendency is exemplified by the 2025 protests in Nepal, which resulted in minimal structural change despite widespread mobilization and significant youth participation.[citation needed]
In the aftermath of the Nepalese protests, several self-proclaimed communist parties and organizations—many of which adhered to social democratic rather than Marxist principles—merged to form the Nepali Communist Party on 5 November 2025.[1]
