Shouldn't there be separate articles for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland?

Articles for them are welcome, perhaps except Northern Ireland, as it's officially part of the United Kingdom. Though the Republic of Ireland could have its own article as well.

But my understanding is that the United Kingdom article should stay, as it's considered a single country composed of different nations

Based on the size of this wiki, I think it's unnecessary. The British isles has remained one of the only constants of Europe for hundreds of years, the development of the working class across the three constituent nations (that is, England, Scotland, and Wales) has been basically monolithic, all in all historically there are not enough differences between the three constituent nations to constitute separate articles. A special section on Northern Ireland in particular is probably worth it, though. If that should be part of this article or a separate one called "Ireland" I don't know.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have devolved governments among other things, so I felt like it would be a good idea to have articles for them too.

I agree with you, @Areyoulessthan. If you happen to have something to work with, you could begin creating stub articles for these countries, while preserving the UK article
