The Young Communist League of South Africa is the youth wing of the South African Communist Party (SACP). It is an organization of communists under the age of 35.
History
The Young Communist League of South Africa was formed on 25 May 1922, shortly after the South African Communist Party was founded. In 1950, the apartheid regime of South Africa banned the Young Communist League under the Suppression of Communism Act.
In 1990, the SACP was unbanned. The Young Communist League was reestablished after the neoliberal GEAR (Growth, Employment, and Redistribution) project began in 1996.[1]
