Lemmygrad is a communist, Marxist-Leninist social media platform founded in August 2019.[1] It is built on Lemmy,[2] which is a FOSS, federated,[3] alternative to Reddit. Lemmygrad was developed by comrades dessalines and nutomic, and is run by a collection of communists from around the world.
Lemmygrad was the second Lemmy instance created, after lemmy.ml.[4] Its mission statement closely matches that of the the Lemmy software;[5] to create a proletarian owned-and-controlled social media platform, that exists outside the control and jurisdiction of US tech companies.
Its user base been growing steadily as Reddit continues to censor Marxist and communist communities,[6] and as racist attacks against Chinese and Russian users increase.
In 2022, GenZedong was quarantined by Reddit, which resulted in a migration to Lemmygrad to keep the community solvent.[7] After Reddit banned and removed /r/GenZhou, an educational companion subreddit to /r/GenZedong, Lemmygrad users resurrected an archive of it at /c/genzhouarchive.[8]
