The Republic of Ireland is a country in Europe. Six of its 32 counties are still occupied by the United Kingdom.[1] Since the island was partitioned in 1921, Irish Republicans have been fighting for unification. Irish War of Independence
The Irish War of Independence began on 21 January 1921, when two British constables were shot dead at Soloheadbeg in Tipperary county. The Dáil Éireann, Ireland's legislature, met for the first time and read out the Declaration of Independence and the Message to the Free Nations of the World.[3]
