The Mujahideen (Arabic: مُجَاهِدِين) was a reactionary terrorist organisation backed and funded by the United States which operated in Afghanistan and later became al Qaeda which would commit the atrocities of September 11th, 2001. Between 1979 and 1989, the CIA gave the mujahideen over $2 billion to fight against the Soviet Union.[1]
