Michael Vernon Townley (born December 5, 1942) is a Statesian explosives expert and CIA agent who moved to Chile to work for Pinochet's secret police (DINA). In 1978, he was sentenced to ten years in prison for the assassination of Orlando Letelier and Ronni Moffitt but was released into the Witness Protection Program after only five years. He claimed that he killed them on orders from DINA director Manuel Contreras and Pedro Espinoza.[1]
