Lemmygrad is a communist, Marxist-Leninist social media platform founded in August 2019.[1] It is built on Lemmy;[2] a FOSS, federated,[a] alternative to Reddit.

Lemmygrad was developed by comrades dessalines and nutomic, and is run by a collection of communists from around the world. It has over 34,000 posts and over 360 active users.[3]

History

Lemmygrad was the second Lemmy instance created, after lemmy.ml.[4] Lemmygrad's mission statement is to create a proletarian owned-and-controlled social media platform, that exists outside the control and jurisdiction of US tech companies. Lemmy shares a similar mission statement;[5]

/r/GenZedong Immigration

In March 2022, /r/GenZedong was quarantined by Reddit, which resulted in GenZedong users migrating to Lemmygrad to keep the community solvent.[6] After Reddit banned and removed /r/GenZhou, an educational companion subreddit to /r/GenZedong, Lemmygrad users resurrected an archive of it at /c/genzhouarchive.[7]

April 2022 DDoS Attack

In April 2022, liberals organized a series of Distributed Denial of Service attacks against Lemmygrad.[8]

User Demographic

Lemmygrad's user demographic has been growing steadily as Reddit continues to censor Marxist and communist communities,[9] and as racist attacks against Chinese and Russian users increase.
