The New York Times is a Statesian bourgeois newspaper. It has historically supported U.S. imperialism and far-right governments. Before publishing its articles, The New York Times sends them to the U.S. government for approval[1].

Criticism

Fascism

The New York Times praised Mussolini in an article from 1923[2]. Upon Hitler's release from Landsberg Prison in December 1924, it wrote that Hitler, "once the demi-god of reactionary extremists," had been "tamed;" he seemed a "sadder and wiser man." "It was believed he would retire to private life and return to Austria[3]," it wrote. In addition, The New York Times described the 1936 Summer Olympics hosted by Nazi Germany as "perfect in setting" and "the greatest sports event of all time[4]."

Imperialism

The New York Times has supported several right-wing CIA coups, including Iran in 1953, Brazil in 1964,[5] Chile in 1973,[6] Venezuela in 2002, and Bolivia in 2019.[5] It promoted NATO's bombing of Yugoslavia in 1993.[7]

Racism

In a 2019 article, climate change denier Bret Stephens cited white nationalist and eugenicist Henry Harpending, who claimed that Jews have higher IQs because of their genes.[8]
