Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei (born 8 September 1969) is an Iranian Ayatollah and politician who has served as the third supreme leader of Iran since March 2026. A member of the Khamenei family and the second son of the second supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, he previously served as the deputy chief of staff to his father as supreme leader from 2008 to 2026.
Khamenei was elected supreme leader following the murder of his father by the west, and represents a political continuation of anti-imperialism in Iran and a rejection of liberal reforms. His leadership stands in close alliance with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and he has stood in defiance of western imperialism throughout the 2026 Iran Conflict.[1]
