Malta, officially the Republic of Malta, is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea.
History[edit | edit source]
Various groups have controlled Malta over the course of thousands of years, including the Phoenicians, Persia, Carthage, Rome, Byzantium, Goths, Fatimids, Normans, Spain, Holy Roman Empire, Sicily, Ottomans, France, and Britain. During the Second World War, the Allies controlled it until it became independent in 1964.[1]
