Adam Something is a social-fascist, pseudo-leftist, and European YouTuber. In spite of him sometimes espousing socialist economics and being critical of anarcho-capitalism and Elon Musk, he nonetheless is highly supportive of the neoliberal imperialist European Union and NATO. He rejects the right of self-determination for the people in Eastern Ukraine, openly promotes anti-communist propaganda, and supports imperialist neoliberal politicians in the EU.[1]
Content[edit | edit source]
Adam Something creates content which is focused on disproving Elon Musk's pseudo-futurism, including his concepts on transportation and space exploration. Furthermore, he also creates videos which greatly criticize the hard-right, such as his video series "Anarcho-Capitalism in practice", or his videos on Ben Shapiro. After the Russo-Ukrainian conflict began in 2022, his content began to more shift towards spreading propaganda and misinformation about Russia. In a debate with Jackson Hinkle and Infrared, he advocated for the balkanization of Russia that's similar to Generalplan Ost, a plan that the German Reich (1933–1945) created should the Nazis win WW2.[2]
Social-fascism[edit | edit source]
Alignment with other pseudo-leftists[edit | edit source]
Adam Something, while sometimes referring to himself as a "leftist", is for all intents and purposes a right-winger, specifically, a neoliberal. He encourages his viewers to support another pseudo-leftist pro-NATO YouTuber, Vaush, whom he says "[...] gave me the inspiration originally to start my own channel". He calls Vaush a "Debate Lord".[3]
Pro-capitalist apologia[edit | edit source]
He claims that "[...]power doesn't corrupt; it just shows you who you really are. In my opinion the same applies to wealth", proceeding to list four "choices" of how a capitalist can "use" their wealth, including the "ethical capitalist". He then goes on to refer to the Russian bourgeoisie in particular as "the feudal overlord" and, in expected western-propagandist fashion, refers to the Russian capitalists (but not the western capitalists, who hold a similar degree of influence over politics) as "oligarchs".[4]
Adam Something, when confronted with the question of the wealth disparity between the Western and Eastern parts of the European Union, reduces it to a simple matter of "corruption", totally ignoring the vast amount of economic exploitation from the Western European nations and massive societal decline after the fall of socialism in Eastern Europe.[5]
Neoliberal servility[edit | edit source]
Adam Something has expressed support for neoliberal political figures, such as Emmanuel Macron. Furthermore, he refuses to support leftists due to them being "anti-globalisation" (anti-imperialist) and "anti-NATO". He later proclaimed "Every leftist in their right mind should be pro-EU and pro-NATO."[6]
While Adam Something has claimed that he opposes both US and Russian imperialism, he trivializes US imperialism, and greatly inflates Russian imperialism. He radically exaggerated the amount of damage and war crimes that happened during the war in Ukraine, yet did not speak about how many times more people died in the illegal Statesian invasion of Iraq, among other imperialist wars waged by the USA.[7]
Adam Something calls anyone who supports the anti-imperialist ba'athist regime in Syria an "Assad apologetic."
According to Adam Something, the purpose of the EU is that it ensures "[...] Europeans don't murder each other," and that similarly the purpose of NATO is to ensure "[...]that Russia doesn't murder Europeans". He also refers to NATO as a "defensive alliance", and glosses over all its militant and imperialist actions in Eastern Europe, while inflating Russian actions in Europe.[6]
Anti-communist rhetoric[edit | edit source]
Adam Something, being a right-wing imperialist propagandist, has a tendency of randomly denigrating scientific socialists and socialist states in his videos and posts. He refers to the modern People's Republic of China as "totalitarian" and a "surveillance state tech-dystopia".
He commonly refers to anybody who is a Marxist-Leninist or who otherwise supports socialist states as a "tankie", regardless of if they identify with that label or not.[8] Furthermore, he appears to dislike practically all forms of Actually Existing Socialism, instead relying on anti-communist propaganda. He says that "tankies" oppose US-imperialism, not because of the hundreds of coups and rigging of elections it has committed, not because of the unthinkable degree of exploitation Statesian capitalists have done to their workers, not because of the millions of dead men, women, and children that have lost their lives during American imperialist wars, but because, according to him, "tankies" merely think mindlessly that "US bad". Furthermore, he thinks that both the 1956 Hungarian color revolution and the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine were examples of "Russian Imperialism", forgetting that the USSR and the Russian Federation are not the same nation, and that the Soviet response to the 1956 uprising was itself an act against Western imperialism.[9]
Conclusion[edit | edit source]
Adam Something is an example of how well BreadTube does in "deradicalizing" far-righters. Adam Something, in his early days a part of the alt-right,[10] has seldom changed his ways; he is still a fascist, that is, a social-fascist. He is a prime example of ideological contradiction on YouTube, claiming to be a "leftist", yet supporting right-wingers or even far-righters in the EU and Ukraine, and militantly opposing nearly all kinds of real-leftist trends. He makes no historical analysis, nor educated conclusions that go beyond what the western propaganda has to say about Russia. He, along with other BreadTubers, are perhaps the most striking examples of the pseudo-left within the modern internet. Like BreadTube in general, the only helpful content Adam Something creates is that which undermines right-libertarianism and Elon Musk's propaganda; however, there is not much beyond that.
