On 1 February 1963, a [[Central Intelligence Agency|CIA]]-funded group of 75 right-wing students accused Gortari of corruption and signed a manifesto to remove him from power. Later that month, the university expelled the students and teachers who signed the manifesto. Less than 20% of the university's professors and only 5% of students opposed Gortari. In March 1963, the new pro-CIA governor, Agustín Arriaga Rivera, fired Gortari and sent the military to the university to suppress student protests. Soldiers wounded several students and killed one.<ref name=":0" /> | On 1 February 1963, a [[Central Intelligence Agency|CIA]]-funded group of 75 right-wing students accused Gortari of corruption and signed a manifesto to remove him from power.
