Editing an article
There is currently no academic criteria for citation of sources, and you don’t need an account to edit articles, feel free to do it right away (although your IP will be publicly seen unless you create an account). Our encyclopedia is in need of quantity of articles, not quality at the moment. You can write a stub, you can contribute with just a sentence in an existing article, and it will be a valuable contribution. You can also collectivize parts of articles from other projects such as Leftypedia and Wikipedia. Just try to clean any traces of bourgeois ideology in it. Collectivizing articles from our comrades over at EcuRed (translations: en) is not only allowed, but also encouraged. Please do it.
In the top right, click the "Edit" button to open VisualEditor. You'll be able to edit most text directly, using the toolbar to modify how the text is shown. As for templates, you can double-click those to edit their parameters.

Click "Save changes..." and write a short description of the changes you made.
It would be ideal if we had the same article written for different languages, but this is very idealistic. Right now, it's actually possible to do so, considering we have few articles. But when our project reach more people, there will be a lot of movement between different languages, and we'll have trouble tracking those changes through all languages. If you see an article in another language that is not available in your language, feel free to translate it to your language. Also if we don't have a language available that you can contribute to, please contact us and we'll create one for your language.

Web and wiki development
Creating a new article
We are currently in need for comrades who can work with PHP to add more languages to our language list in our home website. We also need a version of this front page a bit more accessible to smartphone users, since the majority of people only use smartphones to access the internet. In the far future, comrades can also fork Wikipedia's Android app to make it functional for ProleWiki, but that may also take a while to organize. Wiki development means using MediaWiki's engine formatting to make editing articles easier. It's not that hard, anyone can learn MediaWiki's engine formatting by looking at the article sources in Leftypedia, Wikipedia, etc. This work makes editing articles a lot easier for everybody and it's very valuable to all comrades.
Click the search icon and type the name of the article you'd like to create. If it doesn't already exist, you can click on the red link (highlighted in the image below).

Work on our main page
Note: recently created accounts do not have permission to create pages, this permission is granted after the user has contributed enough through editing. As a reference, you can look at Leftypedia's homepage or EcuRed's homepage.

WikiMedia Templates
"Where should I start?"
When editing articles, a most valuable tool is having ready-to-go templates for styles that handle certain necessities. For example, we can create a template for quotations, like it was used here. The best way to know what features are needed for editing articles is to edit yourself the articles and understand how any work could be made easier through templates. Another thing is figuring out if templates can be used across different languages, since MediaWiki templates are local by default, and having to write them in different languages is also labor.
Here are some pages that can help you get inspiration for pages to create:
*Recent changes - to see which things others are actively working on, and help them develop
*Wanted pages - auto-generated list of pages with dead links pointed to them
*Stub pages - pages that are short and need to be expanded
*Articles needing cleaning up - mostly old pages or pages imported from another source
Over time, we might add more maintenance category pages to help contributors to tackle pending tasks. If you need any help on how to write articles on MediaWiki, take a look at this handbook provided by Wikimedia. We are also happy to help you on the Discord server as well.
Article guidelines
It's recommended that you <u>cite sources</u> for the information you are writing. This is not hollow academicism, this serves to track sources of information so that they can be verified to ensure we are delivering trustworthy content and to give readers sources so that they themselves can read and study.

Share your experiences with your comrades
Wanted pages can be created with small stub articles, but try to cite at least one reference for it.
It's important that everyone look at our project and point exactly what is missing in our style of work. Everything can be improved, and having a community organized on a common goal is very rewarding. We can request articles, discuss issues that may arise during our project, or suggest a feature that you think would improve our work. You can do this by creating a post on our community on Lemmygrad

Donate
We also have some editorial guidelines, which helps us have a consistent work throughout the encyclopedia.
Not only we live in a class society and are part of the lower class, but we also live in a market economy. Hosting websites has its expenses, and to keep ProleWiki, we have to pay an yearly fee. Currently we have no donation platform, so it's not yet available. Every donation (and expenses) are transparently shown here and if our project ends up with a surplus amount of money, we can discuss collectively through Lemmygrad how this money can be used to improve our work, or also to begin new projects, or even help existing ones. Any donation is based on class solidarity, we reject any funding from enemies of our people.

How to find sources?
Share with your comrades about our project. Who knows, maybe they can also help improve it? If you're going to use bourgeois internet media (like Twitter, Reddit or Facebook) to share ProleWiki around, make sure you're sharing with people you trust. We are not ready to avoid organized attacks yet.
There are many resources you can use to find sources to give certain claims a minimum threshold of verifiability.

Hello, comrades! This is a page reserved for updates on how you can contribute to the development of our encyclopedia. Readers are also encouraged to contribute in any way possible, as they'll be not only helping the project but also helping spread Marxism-Leninism and make our worldview more accessible to all.

Contributing to pages

Editing an article

In the top right, click the "Edit" button to open VisualEditor. You'll be able to edit most text directly, using the toolbar to modify how the text is shown. As for templates, you can double-click those to edit their parameters.

Click "Save changes..." and write a short description of the changes you made.

Creating a new article

Click the search icon and type the name of the article you'd like to create. If it doesn't already exist, you can click on the red link (highlighted in the image below).

Note: recently created accounts do not have permission to create pages, this permission is granted after the user has contributed enough through editing. While this permission is not granted, anyone can request for pages to be created to Forte or CriticalResist.

"Where should I start?"

Here are some pages that can help you get inspiration for pages to create:

Over time, we might add more maintenance category pages to help contributors to tackle pending tasks. If you need any help on how to write articles on MediaWiki, take a look at this handbook provided by Wikimedia. We are also happy to help you on the Discord server as well.

Article guidelines

It's recommended that you cite sources for the information you are writing. This is not hollow academicism, this serves to track sources of information so that they can be verified to ensure we are delivering trustworthy content and to give readers sources so that they themselves can read and study.

Wanted pages can be created with small stub articles, but try to cite at least one reference for it.

We also have some editorial guidelines, which helps us have a consistent work throughout the encyclopedia.

How to find sources?

There are many resources you can use to find sources to give certain claims a minimum threshold of verifiability.

If you are writing about current events, you can find sources in these categories:

Importing library works

Check the categories for empty library works and unfinished library works. Older Marxist works can usually be found on Marxists.org or Marx2Mao, although you should check these versions with other copies since Marxists.org is a Trotskyist website and sometimes alters texts. For newer works, check Internet Archive , Libgen, or Anna's Archive.

ProleWiki does not recognize copyright laws designed to censor revolutionary ideas.

Importing

EPUBs

Use this website to display EPUB files in your browser and set the text size to the smallest option to copy more easily. EPUBs can usually be found on Anna's Archive or Libgen.

PDFs

Although Archive.org works usually display as PDFs, look on the right and below to find EPUB or plain text versions which are easier to copy. PDFs are also available on Marxists.org, Anna's Archive, and Libgen.

You can use this website to run OCR for PDFs. Review the text after importing it to correct any errors from the scan.

Other formats

For other formats, such as .azw3 or .djvu, use online file converters to convert to EPUB or plain text before uploading unless you have an easy way to view these files.

Formatting

See main article: ProleWiki:Editorial guidelines#Library

Prioritizing copying text into the wiki before formatting it properly. However, once a work is in the library, you may have to correct typos or formatting errors. There may be many of these errors for scanned PDFs.

Headings should be formatted properly under MediaWiki instead of being plain or bold paragraph text. Tables and math or science equations can be rendered under MediaWiki, but graphs will have to be uploaded as images. Page numbers should be removed from the text.

Social media work

We have opened accounts for ProleWiki on numerous platforms, such as Twitter, Reddit and Facebook, and we plan to open in more platforms. But, as you may easily see, these platforms are lacking any content whatsoever. ProleWiki depends on the voluntary workforce to develop the work on these platforms. This is no irrelevant work, these social media platforms are very important to make our work known and this attracts more comrades to contribute their labor with us. A creative approach to social media content to bring attention to us can be essential for the project to keep going.

Financial contributions

See: ProleWiki:Donate

Not only we live in a class society and are part of the lower class, but we also live in a market economy. Hosting websites has its expenses, and to keep ProleWiki, we have to pay a yearly fee. Every donation (and expenses) are transparently shown here and if our project ends up with a surplus amount of money, we can discuss collectively how this money can be used to develop our work. Any donation is based on class solidarity, we reject any funding from our class enemies (they have no reason fund us, in any case).

Development

See: ProleWiki:Development

To summarize, we need more comrades available to do this work:

 • Development of MediaWiki templates and modules
 • Website administration
 • Fork Wikipedia's app to work with ProleWiki

It's essential for the long-term success of our project and our goals of educating people on the theory of Marxism-Leninism that we have a mobile app for ProleWiki. Forking Wikipedia's app is not an easy task, and requires an understanding of Kotlin and Java programming languages. Developing an app from scratch may also be an option. If you think you have the knowledge to do that, please, let us know in any way possible.

Translation

To have ProleWiki translated to your language, firstly invite others who speak your language to use the Weblate tool to translate the system interface: https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/prolewiki/

Opening a ProleWiki for another language requires a lot of work on the part of the administration, and we need some reassurance this work won't be in vain. So, considering that, we require that at least 3 other people join you in developing ProleWiki in your language and that you can speak fluent English so that our work can be discussed.

Spread the word

ProleWiki's ultimate purpose of existence is to provide a resourceful source of information to workers from all nations, so they can have the theoretical knowledge to understanding their own realities. By spreading the word of the project, you are also helping us immensely, and helping other people get acquainted with Marxism-Leninism as well.
