Thoughts on adding transcripts of YouTube videos or podcasts to our library? --Jucheguevara (talk) 20:37, 4 November 2020 (-03)
- This is definitely a great idea. I can even add some content created by Brazilian marxists, which is criminally unaccessible to most. --FelipeForte (talk) 22:38, 4 November 2020 (-03)

Bom Dia
Bom dia, camarada.
--Jucheguevara (talk)
- Esquenta não, camarada kkkk --FelipeForte (talk) 19:25, 19 November 2020 (-03)
Re: Stalin Talk
Yes, i know. I read Stalin, in fact, i wouldn't be in a ML wiki if i hadn't. However, the hierarchy of sourcing is important, and we should always cite PRIMARY SOURCES when possible, because they are precious and we should maintain the encyclopedic and academic tradition to always have them as a first citation. Since Stalin is building upon and commenting on the work of Marx and Engels in Dialectical and Historical Materialism, his work is a secondary source.
I'm not throwing Stalin on the dirt, i'm preserving an encyclopedic/academic tradition for usage of a primary source. When we expand the article with Stalin's construction of the concept and views, we can cite him, and in fact it's good we cite him, as it is one of my goals to explore specifically what Stalin's developments brought to ML on the wiki. But when we are citing the basics of a concept, we should, in fact, cite it's primary synthesis and origin.
- Following your reasoning, we shouldn't cite Lenin either, since he builds upon the works of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. And we shouldn't cite neither Marx or Engels, since they build upon the works of Hegel, Smith and Ricardo, and the French utopians. This makes no sense at all. --FelipeForte (talk) 15:35, 20 November 2020 (-03)
- You completely ignored my point about academic source hierarchies. Marx and Engels invented new concepts, Stalin in his book summarizes those concepts and then builds upon them. Nothing we talk about in our wiki summary of historical materialism was actually created by Stalin, and we did not mention any of his constructions upon the concept.
- I understand, comrade. You're right. —FelipeForte (talk) 21:23, 20 November 2020 (-03)

Should ProleWiki have its own Discord server?
It could be useful for helping to build a stronger community around the wiki. I know we got Telegram groups but more people use Discord I reckon. Plus Discord has more features, like allowing for different channels and bots and all that cool stuff.
- You mean, spyware Discord? — Supreme Comrade Felipe Forte (talk) 19:30, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
- It's less spyware-y than Telegram anyway. — Comrade ComradeToph (talk) 02:34, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- Please, read:
- Although Telegram is surely not 100% safe, it's a way better option than Discord. Besides, the app we use is not based on security or safety, since it's unlikely we are ever safe in a capitalist-controlled service, we use Telegram because its clientside source-code is open, and therefore can be used in more devices. You can download Telegram through F-Droid for your smartphone, or through your Linux distro's repository, and even Windows (which you shouldn't use if you care about losing your documents and files). Telegram also is better in terms of number of users and usability, having more users outside the US than Discord (400 million users in Telegram vs. 250 million users in Discord). — Comrade Felipe Forte (talk) 12:29, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
- Any time you get on the internet you can be spied upon but some sites are worse than others. Also some sites have at least a notional commitment to internet freedom and some don't. I put Discord in the spy-unfree category. For one thing, it asks for dual factor authentication when you make an account; at least it did for me. This means it demands your cellphone number, thus linking your internet activity to a phone account which is likely to lead in turn to your real identity; so it's a threat to anonymity, which is an important part of internet freedom. Also, some people don't have cellphones, they just still use a land line, or maybe don't have a phone at all. Some less-wealthy people have no phone but can still use internet at a public library. So there's economic discrimination involved as well. I prefer to stick to free, open-source software as much as possible. -- Comrade Comwik (talk) 02:42, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
- We currently stick to Discord nowadays, but we certainly are open to alternatives and to expand our means of communication. The main reason Discord is used is because it's unfortunately the best service we know to organize a discussion center organized with different channels, which helps a lot in our discussions. If you know of a FOSS service, or a less invasive service that has these features, feel free to share with us. Also, I'm not sure why Discord obliges you to give your phone number, I have never been asked this, and I never had to present them this information. — Comrade Forte (talk) 03:50, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

My laptop charger failed
While I plan to be active in our wiki doing other tasks, I can't work on the wiki articles directly because I need to replace my charger. Hope I'll be back soon, but I'll be active on Discord if anything happens – Comrade Forte (talk) 01:27, 17 January 2022 (UTC)
