The Second Cold War, or New Cold War, is a term used to describe conflicts and international tension that are reminiscent of the first Cold War, particularly those seen between NATO and the People's Republic of China and Russian Federation, along with their respective allies.[1][2] Less than 15% of the world population supports the New Cold War.[3]
The diplomatic and economic confrontations between the Western and Sino-Russian blocs, especially after the 2022 Russian Special Military Operation in Ukraine began, have resulted in numerous commercial embargoes, travel restrictions, and even discriminatory violence against people of Asian ethnicity abroad, which has been further encouraged by the reactionary bourgeois media.[4][5][6][7]
On 10 January, 2023 the United States House of Representatives established the United States House Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party. The "Select Committee" comprised of not more than 16 Members appointed by the Speaker and 7 appointed in consultation with the minority leader, are tasked with advising on the “…status of the economic, technological, and security progress of the Chinese Communist Party and its competition with the United States.”[8] The development presents a further escalation of the New Cold War against China.
Western-aligned bloc
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
See main article: North Atlantic Treaty Organization
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is a United States of America-led imperialist military alliance that has been used as a weapon against socialism.[9] NATO has been used as a weapon of war, resulting in the deaths of many millions.[10] NATO has continued to fund Ukraine and its various neo-Nazi organizations in their war against Russia.[11]
Puppet governments
State of Japan
The State of Japan is a major puppet of the Western imperial core. While it was an enemy to the West in the past, Japan was turned into a weapon against socialism by the United States following the end of the Second World War.[12]
Republic of Korea
The Republic of Korea, also known as "South Korea", is a major American puppet state.[13] It is largely occupied by the United States and has been responsible for a US-sponsored genocide.[14]
Republic of China
The Republic of China, colloquially known in the West as simply "Taiwan", is a Neoliberal remnant-government that is presently restricted in its control to Taiwan and its neighbouring islands. Because of the ROC's location near the Chinese mainland, it has been of great geopolitical interest to the American Empire, and has supported the Republic of China both militarily and diplomatically.[15]
