The New Communist Party of the Netherlands (NCPN) is a Marxist-Leninist party based in the Netherlands. It has its roots in the Communist Party of the Netherlands, and formed from members of that party after it turned to social democracy.

International line

2022 Russo-Ukrainian conflict

The party does not support either side in the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian conflict, instead stating that a proper anti-imperialist position means "not taking sides in inter-imperialist conflict". This can be explained by the fact that the NCPN characterizes the Russian Federation as "a strong imperialist country that promotes the interests of its monopolies internationally".[1]

China

The NCPN characterizes the People's Republic of China as a country where "capitalist relations now prevail".[2]

Palestine

In its October 2023 statement regarding Operation Flood of Al-Aqsa, the NCPN states that it condemns "bloodshed of innocent people", stating that their "thoughts are with the Palestinian and Israeli working class in the region".[3]

History

The NCPN was founded in 1992 by hardline Marxists who opposed the merger of the CPN with several opportunist and liberal organizations into the liberal GreenLeft party. The NCPN was also joined by people who had already split off prior to this merger, in opposition to the Eurocommunist course.

(Notably, this means that a sizeable number of NCPN founding members had remained in the Eurocommunist, revisionist organization up until its dissolution.)

In 1999, a split took place in the NCPN, when Engel Modderman and the rest of the Scheemda chapter split off as the United Communist Party over disagreements regarding local NCPN support for a luxury housing project in the province of Groningen.[4]

As Groningen was historically a communist electoral bulwark, this split was notable in the fact that the VCP remains locally represented, while NCPN support in those municipalities virtually dissipated.[5]

This is a simplistic approach, which ignores the economic basis (monopoly capitalism) and other important aspects. As a result of this approach, countries with interests opposed to those of the US are labelled as 'anti-imperialist'. Even strong imperialist countries that promote the interests of their monopolies internationally, such as Russia.”

These capitalist relations now prevail in the Chinese economy. We reject the theory that socialism is a form of commodity production, because it essentially presents capitalist relations as communist. Further research is needed into the character and role of the Chinese state and China's role in international relations under imperialism.”
