The Peruvian Communist Party[a] is a Marxist-Leninist party in Peru founded in October 7th, 1928 by Jose Carlos Mariategui. It was initially called the Peruvian Socialist Party or in Spanish the Partido Socialista Perunano or the PSP before the name was changed to the present day PCP. [1] It's a member of the International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties. However, the PCP is often called the PCP(Unity) to distinguish the Party from other similarly named groups that includes Communist Party of Peru – Red Fatherland and Communist Party of Peru – Shining Path.
