Using its militant wing, known as the People's Guerrilla Army, responsible for the toturing of many Peruvian civilians.[1] It was led by Abimael Guzmán, who was largely treated by the Shining Path as if he were a god or cult leader.[2] The PCP has murdered and executed many civilians, including other Marxists[1] and members of the LGBT+ community.[3] Most infamously was the Lucanamarca massacre when the Shining Path murdered 69 innocent civilians.[1][4] The Shining Path also murdered dogs and hung them on lamp posts.[1][5]
